Lillian was a 10-year Oregon 4-H member. She grew up to spend 33 years as an Extension professional and in retirement 10 years as a part time 4-H International Program Coordinator. Lillian has excelled in many areas of her career but three especially stand out: working with underserved audiences, global citizenship and volunteer development. As a county 4-H agent she wrote numerous grants and engaged older teens to teach programs in self-reliance and self-esteem to hundreds of at-risk youth through her “basic life skills course”. She helped children of homeless families, youth in rural timber-dependent communities and low income youth in Hispanic communities to grow and develop themselves.
For 15 years Lillian provided leadership to OSU’ 4-H Global Citizenship Program supporting over 1000 inbound/outbound youth delegates from six continents. When OSU 4-H Volunteer Specialist, Oregon developed and implemented one of the early volunteer development programs. As Assistant Department Head/Assistant Program Leader, Lillian provided leadership for professional development, risk management and the promotion and tenure program. This work created a strong faculty base to engage with Oregon 4-H volunteers. Before her retirement she spent six months as the Interim 4-H Program Leader/Department Head. Lillian continues to provide leadership to growing a 4-H endowment that benefits the global citizenship program.
