    Wayne has worn many hats in 4-H: Club Member, Junior Leader, Club & Project Leader, Asst. County Agent (mentored Delores Andol), District 4-H Director (mentored by Leonard Harkness), Acting MN State 4-H Leader and MN 4-H Foundation co-founder, board of trustees and donor (President’ Club.) His district leadership supported 4-H programs in 16 NW MN Counties. State leadership responsibilities included curriculum development, volunteer training and project program review in plant and soil sciences, mechanical sciences, natural resources, health and safety, shooting sports and horses supporting 20,000 youth and 3,500 volunteers,

    Wayne served on the National Electric Project Review Team. He created state shooting sports, small business & geology projects. He was State Conservation Camp director for 18 years and chaperoned Citizenship Washington Focus and adult leaders to DC. The Carlsons hosted 36 4-H international visitors in their home. In 1983 Wayne became Training Consultant for Farm Credit Bank of St. Paul. He created Worldspan Educational Consulting in 1993, a self-employed business. He served as CFO for Outcomes, Inc. homes for Autistic boys. He is curator of 4-H Historical Archives at UM Anderson Library, and his hobbies include financial management, woodworking, photography/videography, computers & Kiwanis.

    My dad taught me how to make a slingshot instead of buying one. He taught me to make my own toys out of peach crates instead of buying them. My mom taught me to dig in the soil as we gardened for the winter’s food supply. Living on a farm taught me how life begins and ends. These are the 4-H life skills that motivated me during my career of inquiry and discovery helping youth and adults learn and solve problems.
