At the age of 92, Mrs. Virgie B. Foreman has enjoyed all of her 61 years as a 4-H volunteer, including over 25 years as a local 4-H club organizational leader, making a difference in the lives of 4-H youth in Vermilion Parish and beyond. She is involved with fundraising for scholarships, judging at Achievement and Demonstration Days, Food Cookery and Good Grooming Contest, and 4-H records judging. She assisted in raising $75,000 to operate the 4-H program and established an award in memory of her late husband recognizing the 4-H club that raises the most money for the 4-H Foundation. She assisted in collecting over $30,000 for St. Jude Children Research Hospital in conjunction with the 4-H Trail Ride.
Foreman was instrumental in helping to build the Vermilion Extension Office and Exhibition facility. She was an original member of the Vermilion Parish Building Committee in 1977. She testified for 4-H before the state legislative budget committee and the Board of Regents. She served on the committee to build a cabin at 4-H Camp Grant Walker. She taught child obesity workshops to 4-H members in the 1980s and 1990s. In addition to all this, Virgie served as a PTA member, FHA Mother, Band and Beta Club Chaperone, Indian Bayou and Maurice Fire Department Fund Raiser, Commissioner and Deputy Custodian of voting machines, Catholic Catechism, and Vermilion Volunteers Parish President for 11 years.
