Van Larry Alexander from Mississippi, a graduate of Alcorn State University, began his career as the youth development Agen in Marshall County. It was during a time of racial divide. As a young professional, Larry quickly began to mend the gap by visiting schools, communities, and homes. Unity was his mission. It was Larry’s quiet voice that challenged and led Mississippi’s young and old together to become the Mississippi 4-H family.
Called to become a Mississippi State 4-H Youth Development Specialist, Larry found his true calling, providing leadership to Extension Specialists, volunteer leaders, 4-H agents, and thousands of youth members. He was integral in the development of the $1.2 million Jimmy Bryant 4-H Youth Complex. He played a key role in the development of the Mississippi 4-H Museum. Larry partnered with the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer’s Academy to support 4-H shooting sports training. To ensure his legacy the “Larry Alexander STEM 4-H Excellence Endowment” was established, as a dedication to his love of 4-H and its people, his community and his church.
