Thurman Adams is a farmer and President of T.G. Adams and Sons, Inc. feed and grain business. He was elected to the Delaware State Senate in 1972. From 1999-2002 he served as Senate Majority Leader and from 2003 to today as President Pro Tempore. He serves on the Agriculture, Ethics, Executive, Highways and Transportation, Judiciary, Legislative Council, Permanent Rules and Public Safety Committees. He lists sponsorship of legislation establishing Delaware’ ” 911″ system among his most significant accomplishments. He has been a leader for good roads, assistance for municipalities, public education and the growth of the Delaware Technical and Community College’ Sussex County campus.
Senator Adams is very supportive of 4-H members, the 4-H program and the University of Delaware College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He has provided feed for livestock projects and has purchased thousands of dollars of youth livestock projects at the annual auction. He spends extensive time at the Delaware State Fair in the 4-H building and livestock barns. As a legislator, he has supported legislation and funding for Cooperative Extension and Research in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, especially making sure the local county office and experiment station received needed support.
