Marion MacDonald worked in Extension for over 30 years, starting in the early 1950′ as a Home Demonstration Agent in Oregon and then as 4-H Educator in Kent Co. DE, 1953-1984. She developed strong relationships with local power companies that supported the Reddy’ Food Contest in the 1960′. It continues today as the Favorite Foods Contest, focusing on nutrition, menu planning and food preparation. She cultivated strong support from local ag commodity groups, politicians and community leaders for the county program. Many 4-H members won scholarships at National 4-H Congress with her support and guidance.
Marion is an active member of the Kent Co. 4-H Links, the 4-H alumni group. She judges at many 4-H events and has served as a member of the Delaware State Fair Board, the second woman named to that body, since 1976. She gives leadership and financial support to the Kent Co. 4-H Basket Auction, raising almost $81,000 to benefit county and state 4-H. During her career, she was an active member of NAE4-HA and Epsilon Sigma Phi. She continues involvement in Soroptimists, “Relay for Life,” and various community projects.
