Mary Lee Wood, raised on a farm and active in agriculture, has been with 4-H for over 50 years. Providing the impetus for volunteers to form a statewide 4-H leader organization, she advised their committees who hosted annual State 4-H Leader Forums. She was advisor to two Western Regional Leader Forum planning committees and the Idaho 4-H Teen Association Officers and Ambassadors. A committee member/chair of numerous national planning committees for volunteer, staff development and curriculum development, she authored curriculum for volunteer and member use. She was a charter member and officer of IAE4HA founded in 1972. Since her retirement, she’ been a special project employee, consultant, writer, and volunteer.

4-H teaches life skills using real life experiences. Skills such as giving 4-H presentations/demonstrations, building relationships and the network of lifelong friends and connections apply to life as a parent, employee or boss and in community activities. 4-H honed my appreciation and dedication to volunteerism and encouraged me to be a lifelong learner. It feels good to have had a role in creating that legacy for others.
