Johnson’ professional career began when he joined a newly organized neighborhood 4-H club in 1941 when he was 8 years old. His first project was First Aid. Johnson was a delegate to National 4-H Congress, National 4-H Camp (Conference), and was an IFYE (International Farm Youth Exchange) to Sweden in 1954.
Johnson joined Idaho Extension in 1958, serving as County Agent, 4-H Specialist and State 4-H Leader. He was one of the founders of the LABO exchange program with Japan and was instrumental in establishing the Idaho 4-H Endowment. His last assignment was as an Extension professor teaching classes concerning extension and 4-H.
