At 7, Lynn joined the Beltsville Girls 4-H Club, led by her mother, with foods, sewing, and crafts projects plus camp, fashion revues, demonstration days, fairs and Maryland Club Weeks. In 1969, Lynn was hired as 4-H Agent in Rockingham Co., NH. The 4-H program was diverse with two fairs, 4-H Spaces Conferences, Summer Happenings, short courses, horse shows, project/career trips, fashion revues, foods, camps, leadership labs and recognition nights. On state level, Lynn served on curriculum committees, organized career trips and volunteer trainings, was lead staff for clothing projects and chaperoned Teen Conferences and trips. She and her husband, Charlie, led Great Britain teen travel programs.
Attending NAE4-HA Conferences, Lynn networked, developed friendships, and served on committees and as Northeast Director. The first 4-H Executive Development Institute was an incredible learning experience with amazing people. The 1999 Smithsonian Folklife Festival featured NH, Romania, and South Africa. Lynn was selected to coordinate Summer Camp’s programs on the National Mall. After retiring, Lynn returned to Extension when a 4-H colleague was injured. Then, Strafford County funds for Extension were totally cut. With fabulous volunteers and youth, we kept 4-H active and helped get funds restored. Lynn has served as a 4-H volunteer leader for 50 years. Seeing youth and volunteers grow through 4-H is so special!
