L. C. joined 4-H at a young age following the footsteps of many family members. In 1986 he chaired the committee to build the first livestock barn for the Oakland County 4-H Fair. In 2005 he was on the committee to move the historic Ellis Barn to the Fairgrounds, securing the largest grant ever from the Federal Historic Transportation Fund for the move. L.C. is a 50-year member of Michigan Farm Bureau serving on the Oakland County Farm Bureau Board and works on county Policy Development, Promotion & Education and Agripac, having served on the State Committees in the past. He was also State Young Farmer Committee Chairman.
L. C. serves as a director for the Michigan Association of Fairs and Exhibitions and the American Southdown Sheep Association. He was the Sheep Superintendent at the Michigan State Fair. When the State Fair closed in 2009, he helped create the new Michigan State Fair. L. C. and currently serves on their Executive Committee. Each year, youth exhibitors are awarded $40,000 in scholarships. L. C. shares this love of 4-H and agriculture with his wife of 46 years and has passed the teachings of 4-H to his children and grandchildren.
