In September 1933, Lester Liudahl was one of eight youth who organized the Viking Sheep Club in Benson County. In 1939, it became the Farm and Home Improvement Club, which still exists. As a high school senior, he became their leader. They met his challenge that within four years they would have their first state, regional and national winner in the 4-H Standard Report Program.
Because of Lester’ leadership, many members have since participated in National 4-H Congress, Conference and Citizenship Washington Focus. As an adult, Lester’ leadership encouraged 4-H to grow. In 1969, he was appointed a director of the Western 4-H Camp Association. In 1979, he became a director of the 4-H foundation. He has worked tirelessly to find resources to support both organizations.
