Kathleen Flom was born in 1913 in Belview, Minnesota. She received a B.S. Home Economics Education and Extension degree in 1942 from the University of Minnesota. From 1942 to 1958 she served as a home economics and 4-H agent, assistant state 4-H leader, and regional International Four-H Youth Exchange program leader in Minnesota.
She spent the next 20 years in program and administrative positions at the National 4-H Center, National 4-H Foundation, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the government of Uganda. She retired in 1979, but remained an integral part of the National 4-H Center.
