During over 60 years with 4-H, Juanita has been a member, youth and adult leader, parent, educator, mentor and donor. Academically grounded in adult education, volunteer leadership, youth development and public relations, Juanita wore many “hats” during her career. She started her 4-H career as an Extension agent in Otoe Co., Nebraska, then became a state 4-H educator in Minnesota. She is known for her organizational and writing skills and for her ability to build relationships with the livestock community – building teams of youth and adults. A life-long learner, Juanita sought to “make the best better” in all of her work.
Juanita served on numerous national committees, including Volunteer/Leadership Development and 4-H TV Series and co-authored 4-H curriculum, including Building Effective Leadership, Clothing, Horticulture, Personal Management and Cloverbuds. In retirement, she supports 4-H as a donor, as a member of the Anoka Co. Extension Committee and as an agribusiness partner, helping to design and develop Minnesota’ nationally recognized Livestock Quality Assurance & Ethics Program. As a result of her vision, over 20,000 Minnesota 4-H members have been certified in Livestock Quality Assurance and Ethics. Her program is being used in several states and has been featured at NAE4-HA and other national meetings.
