A WV 4-H alumnus, Eleanor became a WV 4-H Agent in 1956 and later was 4-H Girls State Leader. As a National 4-H Program Leader, she managed 4-H International programs, National 4-H Conference, Citizenship Washington Focus with National 4-H Council, and Staff Development for paid and volunteer staff. She led efforts to develop national curricula with state specialists for nutrition, consumer and international programs. Her vision to use mass media to reach millions of youth was realized as Executive Producer of the Mulligan Stew TV series, leadership for Blue Sky Below My Feet and the 4-H Photography series. As Asst. Deputy Administrator, Home Economics & Human Nutrition, she stayed involved with 4-H EFNEP, nutrition, clothing and consumer programs, and National 4-H Congress.
Now retired, Eleanor is an active volunteer: Alexandria Christ Church, DAR, officer in a Homeowners association, fundraiser for the Fairfax Symphony and a regional Home economics group, where she designed their programs for the past three years. She also volunteers at National 4-H Council in documenting 4-H history and as historical advisor to Program Assistants; with the EFNEP program at CSREES, USDA; Epsilon Sigma Phi; and 4-H Japanese Exchange Program. Her honors include: USDA Superior Service Award, NAE4-HA Distinguished Service Award, and a Federal Women’s Award nominee, and induction into the Centennial Class of the West Virginia 4-H Hall of Fame. She is a West Virginia 4-H All Star and life member of NAE4-HA and Epsilon Sigma Phi.
