Barbara was the first female 4-H agent in Oklahoma. Previously only men held 4-H agent positions. She worked 28 years with the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service – 23 as a full time 4-H educator and five as a district program specialist. Barbara’ 4-H members became well known for outstanding record books, as she had over 50 state and national winners. Two of her members have been selected as Oklahoma Hall of Fame winners. Also known for her leader development, her county was one of the first to implement the middle management system.
Barbara was known for innovative programs and trying new things – she wanted it to be fun while learning. Her county was the first in the state to receive a puppy for the Seeing Eye puppy raising project. While serving in the district office, she implemented a mentoring program to new staff. She served terms as OAE4-HA President, Vice President, President-elect and Secretary. In NAE4-HA she served as Southern Regional Director, Member Recognition Chair, and Co-Chair of the 2004 National Meeting.
