Bruce Buchanan worked in Windham County, Vermont. His 4-H program involved nearly every rural youth in the county as well as many urban children. He was known for his camping programs, which included a weeklong camp for 100 youth ages 12 and older, a three day conservation camp and a camp counselor weekend. He also started the idea of starting a town committee in each of 28 communities to promote 4-H and maintain 4-H clubs. Buchanan was the first president of the Vermont agent’ association.
Buchanan served as secretary of the New England Club Agents Association in 1946, an organization that provided valuable support to the formation of the National Association of County Club Agents. Buchanan was appointed to serve on the first Publicity Committee and later chaired that group. In 1948, he became the first editor of Ӕhe National County Club AgentԠthe newsletter of the national organization. Mr. Buchanan provided valuable service in keeping 4-H agents nationwide involved and informed. He received the NAE4-HA Distinguished Service Award in 1952.
