Ann Barker

    Full Time Volunteer

    Worthington, Kentucky

Ann Barker started working in the Greenup County 4-H program 48 years ago with 4-H Agent Harold Rice. She joined 4-H in 1953 as a fourth grader. Ann’ mother was the club leader and taught foods and sewing. After high school, she married and had children, but missed 4-H. She joined the local Extension Homemaker’ club and worked with the Homemakers at the Greenup County Fair. At the fair Harold Rice asked if she would follow in her mother’ footsteps and lead a sewing club. Since then, Ann’ service to 4-H has been beyond compare as a 4-H volunteer on the county, area, state and national levels. It is difficult to imagine 4-H in Kentucky, particularly in adult and teen leadership programs, without Ann Barker.

Ann works with fund raisers, chaperons kids, serves on committees and councils. She represents Greenup County 4-H on community boards and works with camp, Senior 4-H Conference and State Teen Council. Ann believes there is no better program than camping and actively participates in enhancing the camping program and opportunities for youth. She loves 4-H and kids and truly believes that 4-H makes a difference. 4-H gives youth positive activities and offers many opportunities to learn things that help shape who they are and what they can become. With a granddaughter in 4-H, Ann wants to help ensure that her granddaughter’ grandkids can enjoy the same benefits that Ann did in 4-H nearly 50 years ago.

“4-H is my career. If I was locked into a 40 hour a week job, I wouldn’ have time to be a volunteer!”
